Kevin Pietersen is expected to return to the England squad in time for the World Twenty20 semi-finals, following the birth of his as yet unnamed son on Monday morning.
“The baby was born this morning without complication and both baby and Jessica are doing brilliantly,” a statement on behalf of the Pietersen family said yesterday evening. “Kevin made a dramatic last-minute flight from Barbados to be by Jessica’s side and be there for the birth.”
“This is the most amazing experience of my life,” said Pietersen, who will stay with his wife and baby for a couple of days before returning to the West Indies.
The semi-finals due to be played on Thursday and Friday.
