Tiger Woods Can Focus On Golf After His Divorce

They may finally have extinguished the flames that were burning out Tiger Woods’s career. The world’s most famous sportsman is now divorced nine months after he crashed his Cadillac in the small hours of a late November morning.

It has been crash and burn ever since, but someone finally got the dented fire hydrant to work again.

It was curious that Woods and his former wife should choose to release the news on Tiger’s website

It was also telling that the “joint statement” was released under the names of “Elin Nordegren and Tiger Woods”. Elin comes first these days. She’s the one who has been wearing the plus fours in that relationship ever since that doomed night.

The statement read: “We are sad that our marriage is over and we wish each other the very best for the future. While we are no longer married, we are the parents of two wonderful children and their happiness has been, and will always be, of paramount importance to both of us.

“The weeks and months ahead will not be easy for them as we adjust to a new family situation, which is why our privacy must be a principal concern.”

The privacy mantra has been oft repeated these past nine months and has been as effective as hitting a cut-up wedge into a force 9 wind. The Americans love to use the word ‘closure’, but we are probably still a fair few months away from that.

It has been previously reported that the divorce will cost Woods £500 million. In return he gets shared parenting of the two children, Sam and Charlie, and Elin’s silence. That should at least bring Woods some peace of mind.

When I asked Woods in June, on the stated basis that our professional lives are inevitably affected by our personal lives, if he had any resolution with Elin, Woods replied with a snarl: “That’s none of your business.”

By posting this news on the website Woods has finally recognised that this is our business. Or as one fan put it: “You made it our business.”

That at least is some sort of progress, but it is unlikely that he has yet matured enough to finally utter Elin’s name in public again. The last time most of us can remember Woods putting that four-letter word together was back at the Masters in April.

Moving Forward

Elin’s name may remain unutterable, but Woods should no longer be ruined by the strain of sorting out his divorce. He is likely to have more time for practice and more space in his head again.

Woods may even win a major next year, although there are some who think that the collapse of Woods’s reputation has broken his supremacy for ever.

In the short term it makes it even easier for Corey Pavin to pick Woods for the forthcoming Ryder Cup.

Woods had initially been reluctant to play but, conscious that a refusal to represent his country would only further damage his reputation, Woods suddenly showed willing. Maybe he had finally ascertained that his divorce was imminent.

There is also the mischievous thought that now Woods is single again, the rest of America’s Ryder Cup wives will be more willing to accept him.

Europe’s captain Colin Montgomerie had anticipated hostility, because many of the wives had previously been friendly with Elin. But this divorce may now allow Woods to find a measure of sympathy.

Many players have spoken of how their form was devastated by personal troubles. Monty himself, Paul Casey and Graeme McDowell have all recently articulated slumps brought on by unhappiness.

But top golfers, by nature and necessity are selfish creatures, and each one managed to recover. Woods is now likely to be able to do the same.

But he may never find the old powers.

In nine months Woods has been ridiculed by images of an avenging wife; he has had his considerable sexual exploits revealed; pole dancers have put on a Tiger show as they follow him from major to major; he has been associated with a doctor accused of supplying illegal drugs and been questioned by the feds.

Perhaps worst of all for a man of Woods’s pride, for a man with his meaning in life, he has shanked it all over the golf course. He may never fully forget that humiliation, but he may now at last be able to move on.

Woods may finally be on the first tee to recovery.

Golfer Tiger Woods will have to pay over $750 million in settlements to his soon to be ex-wife Elin Nordegren.

According to reports, Woods and Nordegren have all but finalised their divorce negotiations.

They’ve agreed on all the major points,” an insider source is quoted as saying. “It’s all been worked out privately. Both Tiger and Elin are very close to finishing the negotiations and filing and signing the paperwork.”

At least there is good news for the disgraced golfer. Reports are out that Woods has not fathered a child with porn star Devon James.

James, real name Melinda Brinling, had alleged that Woods had fathered her child after a fling in 2001.

However TMZ.com has obtained documents proving a man named Pele Watkins is 99.99 per cent the biological father of Austin. The DNA test was carried out in 2002 has proved that another man is dad to nine-year-old Austin.

James initiated legal proceedings in Manatee County, Florida earlier this month, requesting a judge to determine the paternity of her son.

Tiger ‘To Divorce Soon’ – Reports

Elin Woods

Tiger Woods is reportedly losing the battle to save his marriage.

Reports out of the USA and UK today suggest that his wife Elin Nordegren is getting close to filing for divorce.

Website, RadarOnLine.com claimed that Nordegren met with with a divorce lawyer shortly before flying to Arizona this week.

The website claimed that Nordegren had spent several hours at the home of the divorce lawyer.

“She’s switched lawyers,” RadarOnline reported a source. “Her new lawyer is from out of town.”

Nick Allen, writing in the Telegraph, claimed Nordegren was furious over a television advertisement he filmed for Nike which featured the voice of his late father and screen before last week’s US Masters.

“Elin was violently angry over this commercial and thought it was a cheesy thing to do,” a source told People magazine.

“She wouldn’t have gone near the Masters under any condition but that just made her madder. She is over Tiger. I wouldn’t be surprised if she files for divorce sometime soon.”

Another friend told People: “She’s so far beyond hurt now. If she were angry or if she hated him, they might still have a chance to work it out. But she’s beyond that. She’s numb. She just doesn’t care anymore.

“She mourned the loss of this marriage, and now she’s moving on. It’s the only thing she can do.”

Meanwhile, Entertainment Tonight’s Kevin Frazier, a former ESPN SportsCenter anchor who has links to Woods, says in a web video that “the marriage is indeed over.”

“It was believed by going to sex rehab that Tiger had done just enough to keep his family together,” Frazier reported. “But sources have told me that the marriage is indeed over.

“The couple hasn’t spoken for quite some time and it is believed that all they have to do is work out a few more details on their divorce and they can sign the divorce decree and both can move on with their lives,” Frazier was quoted as saying by the San Francisco Chronicle.

Frazier also reported that Nordegren was on a flight during Woods’ final round at the Masters and his source claimed that the fact that Nordegren not only avoided the tournament, but went out of her way to be in the air during its closing stages, speaks volumes about the current state of their relationship.

Experts say if she decides to divorce Woods the settlement could be one of the largest in celebrity history, dwarfing the £100 million (R1.1 billion) paid by basketball superstar Michael Jordan to his former wife Juanita.

He said: “No wife is blind enough to miss that much infidelity. Elin had 2 b a willing participant on the ride 4 whatever reason. kids/lifestyle.”

The Liar, Liar star, who recently split from Jenny McCarthy after five years, added that Nordegren, 30, would have been wise to keep quiet for the sake of their children.

Carrey’s tweet received a volley of critical responses from other “twitterers” forcing him to defend himself.

He insisted that he did not condone infidelity.

In a tweet on Friday Carrey wrote “Tiger Woods owes nothing 2 anyone but himself.”

He added: “I want 2 make it CLEAR that I do not condone infidelity at all, but 2 some degree the responsibility 4 it is shared by both people.”

Tiger Woods’ Minders On Mistress Alert

Tiger Woods

Tiger Woods’ minders have been on mistress alert ahead of his comeback at the US Masters, armed with photos of some of the love cheat’s “girls” in case any of them show up and confront him.

During a practice round yesterday in Augusta, Georgia, an innocent observer was reportedly approached by a security guard who asked her: “Ma’am, are you the stripper?”

Pulling out a sheet of mistress mug-shots, the heavy then realised he’d made a mistake and told the gobsmacked golf fan: “We’ve just got to be extra careful”.

Joslyn James, the infamous sex-texting porn star linked to Tiger, has hinted she may turn up to confront Woods at the Masters, which tees off tomorrow.

To the paps’ delight, the golfer was snapped during yesterday’s practice session busying himself with his phone, though it turned out he was videotaping his mate Mark O’Meara’s putting stroke.

His wife Elin Nordegren has stayed away from the tournament’s Augusta setting, and Tiger admitted during a press conference this week that she won’t be there to cheer him on in his quest for a fifth Masters.
