Seve On The Comeback Trail

Brain tumour won't stop Ballesteros
Seve Ballesteros has voiced a interest in playing the Open Championship next year at St Andrews, admitting that after watching Tom Watson this year it has given him some motivation, according to GolfDigest.co.za
Ballesteros, who last year was diagnosed with a brain tumour and has undergone extensive surgery and chemotherapy since then, is on the road to recovery.
He told Peter Alliss in an interview for the BBC’s Inside Sport programme: “Nine months ago I was feeling useless, I couldn’t walk, couldn’t do anything.
“Progressively I set myself goals and one of them was to hit balls and play golf. I watched Tom Watson doing so well and it inspired me to say ‘hey, I can go to St Andrews next year and do very well’.”
The Spanish legend who has won three Open Championships, hopes to make a full recovery before July next year. Spurred on by Watson’s efforts this year at Turberry, where the American lost in a play-off to compatriot Stewart Cink after leading for most of the four days, he hopes to go one better.
“I think it’s great to think positive and to think that I am going to be there and I have a chance to win – why not,” said Ballesteros.
Still with a sense of humour, he admits he wasn’t the easiest patient in hospital, “I wasn’t an easy patient in the hospital. I went nine months without hitting balls and I blamed it on the people, that it was their fault – it’s like when you play golf, it’s always the caddy’s fault!”
